NOSM University’s UME Program selection process is designed to identify those likely to thrive in the challenging northern and rural learning environments. This includes applicants from Northern Ontario, rural and remote areas in the rest of Canada, Indigenous, Francophone, and those applicants who have been structurally marginalized. If you are passionate about rural health and have a strong academic background, you are encouraged to apply. The UME Program focuses on graduating skilled physicians who are ready and able to pursue further training and clinical practice anywhere, but who have a special affinity for and comfort in Northern Ontario. Currently, NOSM University’s UME Program offers eighty-eight (88) seats. These are distributed between our Sudbury Campus and Thunder Bay Campus; both offer unique learning environments. NOSM University is expanding and will potentially increase the number of UME seats to 108 in the near future, providing more opportunities for aspiring medical students.
